So the cheek swabs look sort of um, sharp. I had expected something softer, fuzzier, more Q-tip-like. So that's scary. (I think I'll survive.)
The other thing that's interesting is that even though I've already ordered, you have to sign a consent form or your parent, guardian or person with power of attorney has to sign for you. There's a lot of serious-sounding factoids in the form but the last paragraph says:
These are the best-known risks and challenges of genetic research. There may be other risks, social or psychological, that are yet known. Some people may be surprised by their results and the results may leave a lasting impression on how they view themselves, or perhaps how others view them. If you are concerned about this possibility, we strongly recommend you consult appropriate professionals before ordering the test.
Wow. That's deep. Some folks, probably mostly white because the test is marketed to a higher income, mostly white demographic (the main deeper dive test you can order from this particular company as an add-on is EuroDNA 1.0), have found out that they ain't what they thought they were (probably part black) and sued Ancestry by DNA for the ensuing psychological trauma.
That's what I think. I could be wrong. That's just my guess. I might be mildly surprised by some funky stuff in my gene pool but for this type of very simple results and broad percentages report, it's unlikely I will be shocked off my rocker. So be warned folks: getting the facts on your genetic code is not for the faint of heart. American history is a colorful one and if your family has been in the U.S. for oh perhaps, 150 years or more, chances are good, you might not be what 100% what you've been told you are.
Print Genomics has closed down, we are wanting to take over the testing, and have our own range of ancestry tests, do you know who to contact about obtaining the ancestry-by-dna technology?
Thanks,
Vern
